What our Experts Think
- Budget-friendly indoor tankless solution — The Eccotemp i12 Indoor 4.0 GPM Natural Gas (1779607485683_359) Scratch & Dent model is designed for small to medium homes, cabins, and cottages, delivering on-demand hot water at a lower entry cost due to cosmetic-grade refurbishment.
- Solid 4.0 GPM performance for light households — Supports multiple low-to-moderate hot water uses at once (e.g., shower + sink), making it suitable for compact residential setups rather than high-demand family homes.
- Modern indoor design with smart controls — Features a tempered glass front, LED touchscreen display, and fully automatic temperature control for precise, user-friendly operation.
- Efficient natural gas operation — 80,000 BTU burner with on-demand ignition ensures gas is only used when hot water is needed, improving overall energy efficiency.
- Includes venting kit for easier install — Comes with a horizontal stainless steel vent system and 120V power for the exhaust fan and digital controls, simplifying indoor installation requirements.
- Scratch & Dent value advantage — Typically sold at a reduced price with possible cosmetic imperfections while still tested for working condition and backed by warranty coverage.
- Best for cost-conscious homeowners — Ideal for budget upgrades, rental properties, or secondary homes where reliable hot water matters more than premium finishes or advanced smart-home integration.
- Key consideration — Performance is highly dependent on correct gas sizing, water flow, and vent installation; like most tankless units, proper setup is critical for stable operation.

Maintenance Tips
- Flush the unit every 6–12 months to remove scale and maintain heating efficiency
- Clean the inlet water filter regularly to prevent flow restriction and ignition issues
- Inspect gas line connections for leaks, corrosion, or looseness before operation
- Ensure proper indoor venting system is clear and unobstructed for safe exhaust flow
- Descale heat exchanger more frequently in hard water areas to prevent temperature instability
- Keep electrical connections dry and ensure stable 120V power supply for control system and fan
- Check temperature sensors and digital display for error codes and address issues early
- Do not operate without proper water flow (minimum activation flow required for ignition)
- Shut off gas and water supply before performing any maintenance or service work
- Keep installation area clean, dry, and well-ventilated to avoid overheating or corrosion
- Avoid using for hydronic heating, floor heating, or recirculating systems
- For scratch & dent units, periodically inspect casing and fittings for hidden damage or previous impact wear
